The selection of the correct hinge is done according to the following:
- Door size.
- Door mass.
- Door function.
- Frequency of use.
It is essential for the specifiers to adopt certain principles in the process of selection:
- Has to be durable enough to last according to the duty required.
- Has to be suitable for the application it is fixed for.
- Has to suit opening requirements.
- Has to be strong enough to carry the door mass.
- Has to be robust enough to work efficiently.
For doors weighing over 20 kg it is recommended to fit three Hinges per leaf whilst using a door closing device places a greater load on the hinge therefore it is preferable to install an extra hinge beneath the top hinge.
Where a door closer is applied; it is suggested to have two hinges at the top, one at the bottom and It is recommended that doors higher than 2100mm should have a fourth hinge fitted as well.
